This high protein, veggie packed chicken shawarma plate is not only nutrient dense but utterly delicious! It’s made using fool-proof sheet pan chicken shawarma and even has an easy homemade tzaziki sauce recipe! It’s also meal prep and freezer friendly!
Why This Recipe Works
My husband LOVES shawarma. I mean, I do too, but he definitely likes it more. And he likes GOOD shawarma, ya know? He is a very picky guy! So when I set out to make a shawarma recipe I knew if it had his stamp of approval then it was something to be proud of. Well, it got that stamp of approval!

This easy chicken shawarma plate is now a weekly staple in our house! It’s packed with fresh flavor and it couldn’t be easier to make. Instead of using the typical shawarma cooking style which is cooking seasoned meat on a vertical spit (cause who just has one laying around?!) this recipe uses sheet pan chicken shawarma. SO much easier!
There is also something special about the marinade that makes it out of this world… it uses Greek yogurt! Guys. This is KEY. Adding Greek yogurt to your marinades really allows it to stick to the meat resulting in a delicious, super flavorful chicken shawarma platter!
Ingredients Needed
For The Chicken:

- Chicken Thighs. You can sub chicken breasts if you prefer.
- Greek Yogurt. To make this dairy free simply sub in dairy free yogurt!
For The Tzaziki Sauce:

How To Make This Recipe
In a medium to large bowl combinegreek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and spices. Then add in the broth to thin it a bit.
Place chicken thighs into the sauce, cover and allow to marinade for 2 hours minimum.

When you’re ready to cook the chicken, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place chicken thighs on it and bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes at 425 degrees F.
While the chicken is cooking you can assemble the tzatziki sauce by simply combining all ingredients into a bowl and mixing together until well combined.
When chicken is finished cooking (it should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F) slice it into strips.

Now, assemble your chicken shawarma plate by first using the recommended serving suggestions above. You can customize this to whatever you like best and what you have on hand!
Then add the chicken to your plate and top with tzatziki sauce.
Enjoy!

Recipe FAQs
Great question! Shawarma is a Levantine Arab dish that was originally made with lamb as the meat and is cooked on a vertical spit (rotisserie style!). It’s full of warm, flavorful spices and is served in a pita or rice.
A chicken shawarma plate can be packed with veggies making it super nourishing for our bodies! As an intuitive eating dietitian I don’t believe in calling foods “healthy” or “unhealthy”- all foods can be part of a healthy eating style! Foods are simple more or less nutrient dense and this shawarma plate can be prepared with lots of nutrient density!
I like to prepare my shawarma plate with lettuce, tomatoes, rice, red onion, cucumber, feta, olives and a lemon wedge. You can also serve it in a pita or flatbread!
This chicken shawarma plate recipe does have dairy in the marinade. If you need a dairy free substitution you can simply use a dairy free yogurt!
Expert Tips
- Ideally you want this to marinade for 2+ hours however I’ve done it with just ~1 hour of marinating and it worked just fine. But the longer you let it set the better the flavors come together!
- You can absolutely meal prep this recipe! You can either make a big batch during the weekly and them simply assemble your shawarma plates each day. OR you could prepare your marinade, add the chicken, and then freeze it uncooked. When you’re ready to make your chicken shawarma you can remove it from the freezer, allow it to thaw and cook according to the recipe directions. You can keep it frozen it for 2-3 months!
