Juicy, tender carne asada made in the Instant pot. It’s great for tacos, burrito bowls, salads or nachos! Just 10 minutes of prep time it’s a great for busy weeknights or meal prep!

Why This Recipe Works
I love making carne asada in the Instant Pot because it makes the juiciest, most tender of meats! Plus, all I have to do is marinate the meat during the day and then throw it in the pot to cook in the evening. That’s it! Set it and forget it.
I like to use a big piece of steak when I make this Instant Pot carne asada so that I can use it throughout the week in multiple ways. It works great for tacos or taco salads – don’t forget the 2 minute avocado lime crema! Leftovers also work amazingly for a breakfast of steak and eggs. I pair this with a batch of air fryer seasoned potatoes and it’s a morning feast!
Ingredients Needed

- Steak: Flank or skirt steak work best. No need to buy a “higher quality” piece of meat as the pressure cooker makes more affordable meats nice and tender! I’ve used both sliced steak and whole. Both work, the sliced will be more tender.
How To Make This Recipe
First, combine the chili powder, cumin, salt and brown sugar in a medium sized bowl
Add garlic, onion, juice from the lime and the broth and whisk

Place your steak into a sealable bag or a container and pour the marinade mixture over it. Allow your steak to marinate in the fridge for at least 1-2 hours before cooking, ideally. You can marinate this up to 24 hours.

When ready to cook first place your steak into the Instant Pot and then pour in the marinade on top.
Pressure cooke the steak on high for 60 minutes and allow to naturally pressure release.

When it’s done remove from the Instant Pot, slice if using whole steak and enjoy as tacos, taco salads, burrito bowls, on nachos, etc!

Recipe FAQs
I use a skirt or flank steak. These are pretty affordable cuts of meat that can be tough, but when you pressure cook them in the Instant Pot they get super tender. So there is no need to buy “nicer” pieces of meat for Instant Pot carne asada. You can use either sliced or whole steak. The sliced will be much more tender and flaky.
Yep! Follow all of the same marinating instructions and set your slow cooker to low for 6-8 hours.
You can, but it will be more tender in the Instant Pot due to the pressure cooking. If you want to grill it follow all marinating steps then grill for ~5 minutes per side.
