You can’t live without food, but sometimes it feels like you can’t live WITH it either. Obsessing and thinking about food 24/7 can actually hurt our health, but how do we stop? In this post I’m telling you how to stop thinking about food in 3 steps.
How To Stop Thinking About Food In 3 Steps
Give Your Body Enough Food
The first thing you need to do in order to stop thinking about food all of the time is to give your body ENOUGH. Thinking about food is actually a sign of hunger. So, if you aren’t giving your body enough food, obvi you’re going to think about it.
I recommend getting rid of any limitations you’ve set for food, be it counting calories, WW points, macros, etc. These apps are typically inaccurate when it comes to giving us our true energy needs. The only thing that can do that is your body. I have an entire YouTube video on how to listen to your body, where I walk you through the steps to take to start doing that- starting TODAY. Be sure to give that a watch! Subscribe to the YouTube channel so you don’t miss out on the new videos that come out each week.
Give Your Body Permission To Eat ALL Foods
The second piece to of how to not think about food is to give yourself permission to eat anything. That’s right. Cookies, ice cream, burgers, fries, chips, chocolate, ETC. ETC. ETC. All of it.
When we tell our bodies we CAN’T have something we want that food even more. We will fixate on it. We have to break our food rules that we can’t eat the “bad” foods in order to stop thinking about eating them so much.
I know this is, like, super scary. So I’ve created a few resources for you to make this easier. You can snag my free e-book, The Ultimate 5 Step Guide To Food Freedom, which will walk you through the 5 steps to take to help you break your food rules. And you can also take the No Food Rules Quiz, which will help you find out what is holding you back from breaking your food rules and give you a customized workbook to help you overcome that!
Using mantras and affirmations is another tip that you can use when learning to give yourself unconditional permission to eat all foods. I have a list of my top 20 intuitive eating affirmations here!
Learn To Love Your Body
Okay, listen up! This one is key: you need to learn to love your body. Improving body image is crucial. And, honestly? Probably the hardest.
The root of our obsession with food tends to stem from how we feel about our bodies. Personally, I believe that in order to have a healthy relationship with food you have to have a healthy relationship with what you put that food into. I mean, makes sense, right?
I have a blog post on 3 steps to take to improve body image that can give you some real life tips to make this happen.
Those 3 steps combined are what helped me learn how to stop thinking about food ALL the time. And now I am teaching those 3 steps to thousands of women all over the world and in my VIP membership, The SociEATy.
Leave a comment with which of these 3 steps you’ll tackle first and how. Let’s support each other as we STOP thinking about eating all of the time!
Happy food rule breaking, gorgeous!
