Perfectly baked scones in just about 15 minutes! Only 3 ingredients needed and you can customize the flavor to whatever you like! Great for a grab and go breakfast with some jam, greek yogurt or peanut butter!
Why This Recipe Works
We always have a breakfast-type baked good on hand in my house. It’s so nice to just grab something, like these 3 ingredient scones, in the morning that’s ready to go without having to put a ton of thought into it (especially before I’ve had my coffee!).
I love an easy recipe and this recipe (also called “cream and lemonade scones”) is by far the easiest scone recipe ever! They’re more biscuit-y than other scones, like my whole wheat blueberry greek yogurt scones, so they pair super well with some fruity jam (checkout this 2 ingredient blueberry jam!) or even peanut butter with a drizzle of honey!
I’ve also made a little breakfast “shortcake” with some vanilla greek yogurt and berries- so good! I really like adding the greek yogurt because it adds some protein for a little of what I call “gentle nutrition“. This helps keep me full and satisfied longer! No time for hanger!
Another fabulous thing about these 3 ingredient scone biscuits? You can make them in ANY flavor! I’ve used cranberry soda, orange soda, and even carbonated/sparking lemonade scones!
PS. If you need more breakfast-y baked goods to have on hand checkout these whole wheat baked donuts, banana carrot muffins, or chocolate zucchini banana muffins!
Ingredients Needed
- Self-Rising Flour. If you only have regular all-purpose flour just add a tablespoon of baking powder to this recipe and you’re good to go!
- Carbonated Beverage. You can use ANY flavor your like! I recommend using regular not diet (it makes them a touch sweeter) but diet would technically work.
How To Make This Recipe
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with a non-stick spill mat, non-stick spray or parchment paper.
In a large bowl or stand mixer combine flour with ½ cup of the heavy whipping cream and your carbonated beverage. Mix until just combined. Scone dough will be sticky, but this is good!
Add a few tbsp of flour to a work surface (I use a large cutting board) and drop your scone dough onto it.
Gently roll your scone dough around on the floured surface. You’ll notice it will start to form into a ball as the flour “seals” the outside surface.
Take your ball of dough and flatten it until it reaches ~6” in diameter.
Cut your dough into 6 even triangles.
Place scones onto your prepared baking sheet ~2” apart.
Using a pastry brush brush your scones with remaining ¼ cup of heavy whipping cream, giving them a generous coating on the stop and sides.
Now, sprinkle the turbinado sugar onto the tops of your scones- be generous again!
Bake your scones for 14 minutes, allow to cool completely and enjoy!
Recipe FAQs
These scones are fool-proof and will rise on their own as long as you use fresh baking powder! If your baking powder is expired or if you measure too much flour (like packing it into the measuring cup!) your scones may be dense or not rise.
Heavy whipping cream is the best cream for lemonade scones. You can make heavy whipping cream from milk by combining 1/3 cup melted & cooled butter with 2/3 cup milk.
Yep! Just add 1 tbsp of baking powder to 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour!
These 3 ingredient scones are more biscuit-y. I like to add some sugar on top before baking them and when I eat them I’ll add jam or honey to add sweetness! You could also use plain carbonated water and use these for biscuits and gravy!
Expert Tips
- If your dough is super sticky you can add additional flour to your work surface and just roll it around.
- Serving Suggestions: jam; honey and peanut butter; greek yogurt & berries
