Sink your teeth into the juiciest cheeseburger or hamburger you’ve ever had in just 15 minutes flat! These air fryer burger patties are the BEST way to make burgers year round!
Why This Recipe Works
Burgers are a solid go-to dinner when I’m NOT wanting to cook. They’re so easy to make and come together in literally 15 minutes. Plus, is there anything better than biting into a nice, juicy burger?! No. No there is not.
However…. I live in Michigan. And that means that for several months out of the year the last thing I want to do is grill food outside in the snow. Like… NO part of that sounds enjoyable to me. So, I’ve started to use my air fryer to make hamburger patties and it’s been a GAME CHANGER!
Now, thanks to this recipe for juicy air fryer burger patties I can enjoy myself a burger year round MINUS the stepping foot into the snow. Me likey!
Plus? I also love to make a batch of air fryer hamburgers for meal prep and use them in my hamburger salad (a.k.a. Big Mac in a bowl) recipe for a quick, easy and delicious lunch!
Ingredients Needed
- Ground beef. I like to use ground beef with a little fat in there. 80/20 (20%) fat will give you a nice, juicy burger. Whereas a leaner type, like 90/10 or even 93/7, will give you a much more lean burger. You can really use any for this recipe though. You do you! This blog post from The Kitchn also has some more info on the different types of ground beef out there.
How To Make This Recipe
Take all of your ingredients and combine them in a large bowl. Mix everything up well. Use your hands, it’s okay to get a little messy!
To form my burger patties I like to use a burger press. You can snag this burger press for like $10 on Amazon. Trust me, it’ll be one of your fave random purchases you didn’t even know you needed!
Once your patties are formed I like to put them in the fridge or freezer until it’s time to cook them, ideally at least 20 minutes. This just helps them to set and be a little less likely to fall apart. If you have to skip this step, no biggie!
To cook your air fryer hamburgers first you’re going to want to spray your air fryer basket with non-stick spray.
Then, lay down your patties into the basket. How many you can fit really depends on the size of your air fryer. Mine can fit 4 burgers comfortably in my 6 qt Instant Pot air fryer (which I love and highly recommend.) You don’t want to overcrowd the basket or they won’t cook evenly.
Cook your air fryer hamburgers (or air fryer turkey burgers!) for a total of 10 minutes at 370 degrees. Flipping once halfway through the cooking time.
If you’re adding cheese: add the slice of cheese for the last minute only so that it melts. (So this would be at about minute 9)
Note: If you like your burgers more on the rare side you can check them at the 8 minute mark. If you like them more well-done with a crispy edge you can increase the temp to 400 and cook for an additional 1 minute for a little more crispiness.
Recipe FAQs
Sure thing! All you have to do is swap ground beef for ground turkey. You could even make these into air fryer chicken burgers if you wanted to! You do you!
Absolutely! You don’t even need to thaw a frozen burger patty in order to cook it in the air fryer. You can just throw it in there, just like a non-frozen burger patty. However, you will need to increase the cooking time by ~5 or so minutes.
Yes! If you’re cooking for one you can do them side by side. The cooking temps and times are similar if you look at my recipe for air fryer frozen french fries and crispy air fryer sweet potato fries.
However, if you’re cooking multiple burger patties you’re going to want to use an air fryer layering rack. Most air fryers will come with one, but if yours doesn’t have one you can snag an air fryer layering rack from amazon for $10 bucks. You don’t want anything to overlap on each other otherwise you won’t get the crispy, delicious food you’re looking for!
Expert Tips
- Chilling the burgers can help them retain their shape and cook nicely. This works especially with a fattier ground meat. Starting the cooking cold actually helps them get nice and juicy. However, if I’m being honest I do this about 30% of the time…. They work just fine without the step, too!
- You can absolutely make your own frozen air fryer hamburgers by freezing them either before cooking them or after. If you’re freezing before cooking: separate the patties with wax paper so they don’t stick together. Extend recipe cooking time by 5 minutes. If you’re freezing after cooking: to re-heat them just air fry them for ~5 minutes at 370! Since they’re cooked they
- If you’re not sure if your burgers are done use a meat thermometer to see if they’ve reached 160 degrees F.
- Here are a sides that I like to serve my air fryer burger patties with:
- air fryer frozen french fries
- air fryer tater tots
- air fryer sweet potato fries
- air fryer seasoned potatoes
- copycat chick fil a sauce

Juicy Air Fryer Burger Patties
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees F. If you don’t have a preheat function you can let it run at that temp for ~5 minutes.
- In a medium to large sized bowl combine all ingredients and mix well. I like to use my hands!
- Divide mixture into 4 equal parts and form each part into a patty. I like to use a burger press for even patties.
- OPTIONAL: place your patties in the fridge for ~20 minutes, or pop them in the freezer for about 5. This will help them stay together a bit more and especially help fattier meats (like 70/30 or 80/20) get nice and juicy, but if you have to skip this step no biggie!
- Spray the basket for your air fryer and place patties inside, ideally not touching, but it’s okay if they do just a bit.
- Cook your burger patties for a total of 10 minutes, flipping your burgers once halfway through. If you like them crispier you can crank up the air fryer to 400 for 1-2 minutes.
- NOTE: If adding cheese add for the last 1 minute.
